Students on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus experienced an active shooter scare on Sunday evening, but no threat was found and no shooting took place.
The incident began when a student carrying an umbrella was mistaken for someone with a weapon, prompting a campus-wide emergency response.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) embarrassed herself by sharing about the “alleged shooter” on X.
Mace, who represents South Carolina’s 1st congressional district and whose son attends the University of South Carolina, followed up by posting a photo of an innocent man walking on campus, describing him as a “white male” wearing “black shorts, grey tshirt, backpack.”
The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh swiftly ripped the representative over her goof by mocking, “Really grateful for Nancy Mace. She bravely alerted the public to the dangers of a guy carrying an umbrella.”
He continued, “This is why we need common sense umbrella control.”

Emergency alerts were sent across campus as law enforcement agencies responded to what they believed was an immediate threat.
