President Donald Trump has just announced that his administration will take new steps to defend students’ rights to pray in public schools.
The president blasted what he described as growing hostility to faith in the education system.
The Monday announcement came during the second official hearing of the Religious Liberty Commission, held at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
The session focused on religious liberty and public education, with students testifying about how their beliefs had been challenged or punished in classrooms.
“For most of our country’s history, the Bible was found in every classroom in the nation, yet in many schools, today’s students are instead indoctrinated with anti-religious propaganda and some are even punished for their religious beliefs,” Trump said.
He highlighted the case of Hannah Allen, a Texas student who was reprimanded for gathering with classmates during lunch to pray for an injured friend.
“To support students like Hannah, I’m pleased to announce this morning that the Department of Education will soon issue new guidance protecting the right to prayer in our public schools,” Trump declared.
