President Donald Trump weighed in Wednesday on explosive reports that former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey are under active criminal investigation for potential misconduct tied to the discredited Trump–Russia probe.
Speaking to reporters during a meeting with African leaders at the White House, the president responded directly to a question from Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy.
Doocy asked Trump whether he believed the two former intelligence chiefs should be “behind bars.”
“Well, I know nothing about it other than what I read today,” Trump said.
“But I will tell you, I think they’re very dishonest people.
“I think they’re crooked as hell.
“And maybe they have to pay a price for that.”
“I believe they are truly bad people and dishonest people,” Trump added.
“So whatever happens, happens.”

The comments came after Fox News reported that Justice Department sources confirmed an ongoing criminal investigation into Brennan.
The probe focused at least in part on whether the former CIA chief made false statements to Congress during testimony about the origins of the Trump–Russia narrative.
