More than 320,000 migrant children went missing under the Biden administration amid a surge of illegal immigration that overwhelmed U.S. border enforcement capabilities.
The massive influx created what some officials have described as the largest humanitarian and logistical failure in modern immigration history.
In a major development, President Donald Trump’s administration has reportedly located at least 13,000 of those missing children, marking a significant step toward reuniting them with their families or removing them from dangerous environments. Trump officials framed the effort as a nationwide rescue mission.
One troubling case involved a Guatemalan national, Adelso Garcia Martinez, who was arrested in Newark, New Jersey, on May 13. Martinez, wanted for homicide in his home country, was found to be sponsoring one of the missing children.
ICE officials said the case highlights the dangers of the previous administration’s vetting failures, Trending Politics reported.
“It is deplorable to imagine that a wanted fugitive would find illegal shelter in the United States with a child in tow and later go on to sponsor another alien,” said ICE HSI Newark Special Agent in Charge Ricky Patel following the arrest.
