A top Russian general has been killed in a car bombing just outside Moscow, according to the Kremlin.
Russia’s top criminal investigation agency said Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik was killed during the Friday morning attack.
Moskalik was a deputy head of the main operational department in the General Staff of the Russian armed forces.
The Investigative Committee said Moskalik was killed by an explosive device placed in his car in Balashikha.
The explosive device was rigged with shrapnel.

The incident was confirmed by Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.
The perpetrator of the blast is unclear.
The attack comes as White House envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow on Friday.
Witkoff is meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
