Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and his wife, State Sen. Angela Paxton, publicly announced Thursday their decision to end their nearly 40-year marriage.
The announcements came via separate statements posted on X within minutes of each other, revealing personal struggles amid Ken Paxton’s ongoing campaign to unseat incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in the upcoming Republican primary.
Angela Paxton announced that she filed for divorce on “biblical grounds” after 38 years of marriage.
In her statement, she described marriage as a “sacred covenant” and said she had pursued reconciliation.
However, she added, “In light of recent discoveries, I do not believe it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”
Approximately 20 minutes later, Ken Paxton confirmed the split, attributing it in part to the pressures of “countless political attacks and public scrutiny.”
He expressed pride in their family and requested prayers and privacy, stating, “I remain committed to supporting our amazing children and grandchildren.”
The timing of the divorce announcement occurs as Paxton intensifies his primary challenge against Cornyn, who has held his seat for more than two decades.
