Report: Jack Smith’s Team Panics, Hires Lawyers Ahead of Trump’s Inauguration – EVOL

Biden Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith — who brought two highly controversial criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump — is rushing to secure legal representation ahead of anticipated criminal prosecution from the Trump DOJ, according to a report from Rolling Stone.

Citing two sources familiar with the matter and a former DOJ official, several attorneys and staffers who worked on Smith’s team have already retained personal attorneys. The move comes as Smith and his team fear that they could be criminally prosecuted for their work on the dubious cases.

The first case brought by Smith — through which Trump was slapped with multiple felonies for allegedly mishandling classified documents — was tossed by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon earlier this year. Judge Cannon argued that Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional, a ruling that Smith vowed to appeal before disbanding his office after Trump’s election.

The documents case was brought despite the fact that Trump’s legal team was in constant contact with the National Archives regarding potentially classified documents.
