Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once again doubled down on her involvement in a pressure campaign aimed at getting President Biden to suspend his re-election bid during the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday.
CNN host Jake Tapper asked Pelosi if she has spoken with President Biden since his unprecedented decision to suspend his presidential campaign, leading to Harris securing the nomination without a single primary vote cast for her. Pelosi has been implicated as a major player in the scheme by a number of sources both inside the White House and the upper echelons of the Democratic Party. The former House speaker has also spoken candidly in a number of interviews this month as well, a theme she continued on Monday.
“I did what I had to do,” Pelosi told the panel. “He made the decision for the country. My concern was not about the president, it was about his campaign.”
