President-elect Donald Trump is set to dine with Akie Abe, the widow of the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, at his Mar-A-Lago estate this upcoming Sunday. Abe, a personal friend of the president-elect, was assassinated in July 2022.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, citing a person familiar with the situation, reported that Trump is set to attend a private dinner with Abe on Sunday. “The dinner will take place at Mar-a-Lago and Melania Trump is expected to attend,” Collins reported via X post. “Trump and Mrs. Abe have maintained a close relationship ever since her husband was assassinated two years ago while delivering a political speech in his home country.”

Trump has reportedly stayed in contact with Mrs. Abe and regularly calls to check in on her, Collins reported. “The dinner was scheduled through direct conversations between the two, not government channels, as is often the case with diplomatic figures,” she added.
