Republican senators have declared an all-out boycott of Democratic legislative goals, aligning themselves firmly behind former President Donald Trump following his recent felony conviction. The unprecedented move comes as Trump, the 2024 Republican frontrunner, faced legal repercussions on Thursday from a New York grand jury verdict that found him guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records linked to the 2016 presidential campaign.
Leading the charge is Senator Mike Lee (R-UT). Lee wrote on X, “Those who turned our judicial system into a political cudgel must be held accountable. We are no longer cooperating with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations, and we invite all concerned Senators to join our stand.”
In a fiery letter addressed to the White House and signed by multiple GOP senators including Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Marco Rubio (R-FL), the group criticized the administration for un-American alterations to U.S. politics. “The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law,” the letter read.
The Republicans’ strategic blockade includes halting all non-security related funding increases, opposing any appropriations bill they view as funding partisan legal battles, and refusing to confirm any of the administration’s political and judicial appointees. They also vow
