Mass shooting in Orlando leaves 2 dead and 6 wounded by teen, during Halloween event—Suspect arrested – EVOL

A horrific Halloween mass shooting in downtown Orlando early Friday morning left two people dead and six others wounded, sending shockwaves through a city known for its vibrant nightlife.

The tragic incident unfolded outside The Block, a popular nightlife district with seven clubs, where hundreds had gathered for a Halloween costume contest with cash prizes.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith provided details in a press conference, explaining that officers responded to gunfire at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue at approximately 1:07 a.m.

Just minutes later, a second burst of gunfire erupted one block north at Washington Street and Orange Avenue, further intensifying the chaos.

Six victims, between the ages of 19 and 31, were transported to local hospitals and are reported to be in stable condition. Tragically, two others lost their lives in the melee.

Police identified the shooter as 17-year-old Jalen Dwayne Edgar.

According to authorities, Edgar, who was previously arrested for grand theft in 2023, arrived in downtown Orlando armed with a handgun, bypassing officers stationed throughout the area.

Officials believe he acted alone, and his actions were described as calculated.
