A bipartisan congressional task force said they requested a briefing with the Secret Service regarding the latest assassination attempt on Trump.
Republicans and Democrats condemned political violence following Sunday’s apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
The FBI confirmed on Sept. 15 that it is investigating “what appears to be an attempted assassination” of the former president after shots were reported near Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he was golfing.
Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder said a suspect connected to the incident has been taken into custody. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the suspected gunman at the time of publication.
Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), said the Republican presidential candidate was “amazingly, in good spirits” when he spoke to him after the incident.Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state will conduct its own investigation into the apparent attempted assassination, noting that “the people deserve the truth about the would-be assassin” and “how he was able to get within 500 yards” of the former president.
