Lara Trump, a prominent figure in the Republican Party and daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has announced her resignation as chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Her decision comes as speculation grows that she may seek to replace Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who has been tapped to serve as Secretary of State in Trump’s upcoming administration.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Trump confirmed her interest in the Senate seat. “It is something I would seriously consider,” she stated.
“If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
Lara Trump, mother of two and wife of Eric Trump, was elected as RNC co-chair in March and played a pivotal role in the party’s recent electoral successes.
Under her leadership, the GOP secured victories in the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives. Reflecting on her tenure, she said, “With that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up. What I intended to do has been done.”
