Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear made controversial remarks about Senator JD Vance (R-OH) during an interview on MSNBC’s coverage of the DNC on Tuesday. When asked by Mika Brzezinski about GOP claims that Democrats support abortion up until nine months, Beshear criticized Vance’s stance on pregnancies resulting from rape.
“It’s just fear tactics, and it’s just lying to people,” Beshear said. He referenced Vance’s comment where Vance referred to pregnancy resulting from rape as “inconvenient.” Beshear then added, “Make him go through this,” implying that Vance should experience the reality of such a situation.
Beshear emphasized, “It is someone being violated, someone being harmed, and then telling them that they don’t have options after that. That fails any test of decency, of humanity.”
Senator Vance responded strongly on social media, asking, “What the hell is this? Why is Andy Beshear wishing that a member of my family would get raped?!?”
Beshear later denied that he wished harm on Vance’s family but did not apologize for his comments.
