FBI Director Kash Patel provided fresh details Monday about the investigation into the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, confirming the attack was premeditated and that key forensic evidence has been recovered.
The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah, reportedly left a note stating, in essence, “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
Forensic analysis later verified the note’s contents, despite prior reports that it had been destroyed.
Patel said the note was recovered from Robinson’s residence, which he shared with his partner.
“Evidence of its existence… was in the location in the suspect and partner’s home. But we have since learned that the note, even though it has been destroyed, we have found forensic evidence of the note, and we have confirmed what that note says,” Patel said.
The shooting took place Wednesday at Utah Valley University during the first stop of Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour,” a 15-campus fall speaking series organized by Turning Point USA.
The tour was designed to engage students on college campuses nationwide, marking Kirk’s return to public speaking after a summer break, the Salt Lake City Tribune reports.
