Judge Blocks Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Order After Supreme Court Ruling – EVOL

In a move certain to ignite legal and political backlash, U.S. District Judge Joseph LaPlante on Thursday blocked President Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants—despite the Supreme Court’s recent ruling limiting judicial overreach.

LaPlante’s ruling includes a seven-day stay, giving the Trump administration time to appeal, and comes just weeks after SCOTUS ruled that federal judges cannot issue nationwide injunctions. Yet LaPlante attempted to bypass that restriction by reclassifying the case as a class-action, thereby freezing enforcement of the order once again.

“That’s irreparable harm — citizenship alone,” LaPlante said during the hearing, describing American citizenship as “the greatest privilege that exists in the world.”

Trump Executive Order Targeted Abuse of the 14th Amendment

President Trump’s executive order, signed in January, ends the policy of granting automatic citizenship to children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens. The order is part of Trump’s broader effort to secure the southern border, restore the rule of law, and end incentives for illegal immigration.
