Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has dismissed Woke Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield from her role as the U.S. military representative to NATO, marking another step in the Trump administration’s ongoing effort to reshape the national security apparatus.
The decision was announced Tuesday by Chief Pentagon Spokesperson Sean Parnell, who said Chatfield was removed due to a “loss of confidence in her ability to lead.” Her dismissal follows a broader effort by the administration to remove officials deemed aligned with progressive or “woke” ideologies, particularly in the defense and intelligence sectors.
“The Defense Department is grateful for Vice Admiral Chatfield’s many years of service,” Parnell said, confirming her removal from the NATO role.
Chatfield had been listed by the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) among military officials accused of promoting liberal views, citing her public remarks and participation in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) events.
The AAF highlighted a 2015 speech in which Chatfield, speaking at an Army event for Women’s Equality Day, pointed out that roughly 80% of Congress was male at the time—suggesting this imbalance affected which issues gained attention.
