Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) formally referred Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation on Saturday, escalating what has become a growing MAGA-driven scrutiny of the Federal Reserve.
In a post to X, Luna accused Powell of “knowingly misleading Congress and the executive branch” under oath during recent testimony about luxury renovations to the Federal Reserve’s historic Eccles Building in Washington, D.C.
“Lying under oath is a serious offense—especially from someone tasked with overseeing our monetary system and public trust,” Luna wrote.
The Allegations: Lavish Renovations, Misleading Claims
Luna’s referral stems from Powell’s June 25, 2025, testimony before the Senate Banking Committee, during which he claimed there were no extravagant amenities being added to the Eccles Building renovation.
Among Powell’s claims:
“There’s no VIP dining room.”
“There’s no new marble.”
“There are no special elevators… no new water features… no roof terrace gardens.”
But according to Luna, nearly all of these features
