The Trump administration’s Justice Department is reviewing pardons and commutations issued by former President Joe Biden during the final weeks of his presidency.
Justice Department Pardon Attorney Ed Martin is leading the review.
Officials have confirmed that the list of individuals granted clemency by Biden is under examination.
The review follows concerns about Biden’s mental condition during his last months in office and his use of an AutoPen to sign official documents.
It remains unclear which specific clemency cases are being reviewed. However, reports indicate the Justice Department is focusing on preemptive pardons granted to Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, as well as commutations for more than 35 death row inmates.
These commutations reduced their sentences to life in prison.
The Department of Justice did not respond to Fox News’s inquiries about the scope or timeline of the review. Officials also declined to clarify whether the investigation is limited to certain individuals or categories of offenses.
Biden issued a total of over 1,500 pardons and commutations near the end of his term, as Fox News reported.
The White House at the time described the action as the largest single-day clemency order in U.S. history.
