FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino returned to the office on Monday following an unexpected absence that stirred speculation about internal turmoil within the Trump administration.
Bongino’s failure to appear for work on Friday sparked widespread rumors about his possible resignation and raised questions about the administration’s handling of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
Those concerns were addressed publicly by President Donald Trump on Sunday evening as he stepped off Air Force One.
Trump affirmed his continued support for Bongino, describing him as a longtime acquaintance and trusted figure within the administration.
“I spoke to him today,” Trump told reporters.
“Dan Bongino. Very good guy. I’ve known him for a long time. I’ve done his show many, many times. He sounded terrific, actually. No, I think he’s in good shape.”
Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator, gained national prominence in right-leaning media circles for his focus on allegations of a government cover-up protecting high-profile individuals connected to Epstein.
