The hopes and dreams of Colin Kaepernick to return to the NFL were once again dashed on Wednesday, as the New York Jets signaled that they have no desire to sign him to replace injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016, when he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice. He has since become a symbol of the fight for social justice, but his protests have also made him a polarizing figure.
