Democratic lawmakers reportedly rushed past security and through the gates of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in New Jersey on Friday, along with others protesting the detention center.
Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported, “DHS tells Fox News two Democratic members of Congress have ‘stormed’ ICE’s Delaney Hall detention facility in New Jersey with a group of protesters and are currently holed up in/near a guard shack on the property. Fox is told the group waited for the gates to open to allow a bus with ICE detainees to enter the property, then they rushed in past security.”
Melugin later shared a post from a third Democratic lawmaker, who openly shared video of herself at the facility. The three Democrats included Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), Lamonica McIver (D-NJ), and Rob Menendez (D-NJ).
According to posts from some of the lawmakers, they arrived at the ICE detention facility to conduct “oversight” as members of Congress.
“As congressional members, we have the power to conduct oversight. That’s what we’re here to do,” McIver posted on X.
Coleman posted a video to social media as well, captioning a clip and photos, “We’re at Delaney Hall, an ICE prison in Newark
