Biden Breaks Silence on Controversial Autopen Use – EVOL

Former President Joe Biden has defended his controversial use of an autopen to sign thousands of clemency documents during his final days in office — a practice now under investigation at the direction of President Donald Trump.

Biden: “I Made Every Decision”

In an interview with The New York Times on Thursday, Biden addressed criticism over his use of the autopen during his final clemency actions, which pardoned or commuted the sentences of over 1,500 individuals — the largest single-day act of clemency in U.S. history.

“We’re talking about a whole lot of people,” Biden said. “I made every decision.”

However, The Times noted that while Biden approved the criteria for the categorical pardons, he did not personally review or approve each name. His staff then used an autopen to affix his signature on the finalized documents.

Trump Orders DOJ to Investigate

In June, President Trump issued a memo to Attorney General Pam Bondi, directing the DOJ to investigate the use of the autopen and whether it was used to conceal a decline in Biden’s cognitive abilities.
