Attorney General Pam Bondi has fired more than 20 Department of Justice employees involved in the January 6 probe and the classified documents case targeting President Donald Trump, according to Axios and Reuters.
The firings are part of a sweeping internal purge meant to eliminate staff tied to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s controversial prosecution efforts.
Trump-Targeting DOJ Staff Let Go
According to Axios, at least 20 employees were terminated on Friday alone. That includes:
This brings the total number of Smith-linked DOJ employees fired to roughly 35. Another 15 may be next.
An administration official told Axios: “Some of these people were burrowed deep, and we’re finding them and making a determination.”
The firings stem from findings by the DOJ’s internal Weaponization Working Group — a unit created to root out political bias and lawfare within the department.
Firings were reportedly delayed earlier this week as Bondi and the DOJ dealt with fallout from the Epstein case mishandling.
