4 Senate Republican Vote with Democrats to Block Trump’s Tariff Plan – EVOL

Four Republican senators have voted with Democrats to help the Senate advance a resolution to block President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Early Wednesday morning, Trump excoriated four GOP senators who bucked his demand to implement sharp new tariffs on Canadian imports.

As Slay News reported, the president called the cadre “disloyal” and suggested they were suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS).

Despite the Republican majority in the upper chamber, the Democrat-led resolution undoing Trump’s tariffs against Canada advanced past the Senate on Wednesday.

It was passed after multiple Republicans joined their counterparts in support of it.

Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Rand Paul (R-KY), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) supported the resolution, bucking the president to do so.

Thanks to the GOP defectors, the Democrats won the final vote 51 to 48.

In a statement after the vote, former GOP Senate leader McConnell said:

“As I have always warned, tariffs are bad policy, and trade wars with our partners hurt working people most.

“Tariffs drive up the cost of goods and services.”

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY) slammed the resolution’s passage.
