Democrat Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) blasted members of his own party who have been flirting with socialism and rejecting capitalism.
The senator blasted those Democrats as “morons” and pointed to the lived experience of people who suffered under communist regimes.
Fetterman was asked about a new Gallup poll showing that just 42% of Democrats view capitalism favorably, compared with 66% who now view socialism positively.
He told reporters he recently put the question to people while traveling in Croatia.
“I literally was in a former communist nation, and I asked that,” Fetterman said.
“I said, ‘Some people in my party, some of the lefties are talking about socialism now. What do you think?’
“And he’s like, ‘That’s the worst thing ever. You would never want to live here, I’ve lived through that kind of a thing. You’re going to need a reality check if you ever adopt any of those things.’
“You know, like, you are morons.
“It’s like, ‘it was a nightmare for us, and now we are a free market nation.’ It was Croatia.”
Fetterman added that people in Croatia were “mystified” that Americans were even debating socialism.
