President Donald Trump had a lighthearted but pointed reaction after learning that actress Sydney Sweeney — at the center of a culture war firestorm over her American Eagle denim campaign — is a registered Republican.
Speaking to the Daily Mail after landing in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the president responded with enthusiasm:
“She’s a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad,” Trump said.
“You’d be surprised at how many people are Republican. That’s one I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”

Public voter records confirmed that Sweeney registered with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County in June 2024. The news was first reported by Daily Mail and quickly went viral.
