The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a lawsuit against the state of New York and New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) over the Big Apple’s sanctuary policies that protect illegal immigrants from federal authorities.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the lawsuit against Adams, as well as other leftist officials in the Empire State for enforcing sanctuary city policies that are at odds with the immigration agenda of the Trump administration.
The DOJ argued that such policies violate the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
“New York City has released thousands of criminals on the streets to commit violent crimes against law-abiding citizens due to sanctuary city policies,” Bondi said in a DOJ press release. “If New York City won’t stand up for the safety of its citizens, we will.”
“For too long, New York City has been at the vanguard of interfering with enforcing our immigration laws,” Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate said. “Its efforts to thwart federal immigration enforcement end now.”
