President Donald Trump has publicly accused California Sen. Adam Schiff (D) of involvement in a mortgage fraud scheme related to Schiff’s residency claims while serving in Congress.
The accusation is the latest development in a high-profile political feud between the two men.
On Tuesday, Trump posted a message on Truth Social calling Schiff a “scam artist” and alleging that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division had uncovered a “sustained pattern of possible mortgage fraud” involving the California senator.
Trump claimed Schiff falsely reported his Maryland residence as his primary home to secure a mortgage with more favorable terms.
According to Trump, Schiff’s mortgage paperwork was only corrected in October 2020 to reflect the property as a secondary residence.
Schiff served in the U.S. House from 2001 until winning election to the Senate in 2024, according to Trending Politics.
Trump’s allegations also draw comparisons to mortgage fraud accusations against New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Resist the Mainstream reported back in April that James was referred for criminal prosecution after federal authorities reportedly discovered discrepancies in her mortgage filings.
James has continuously denied any wrongdoing, calling the investigation a “political witch hunt,” and benefits from a publicly funded legal defense fund estimated
