On Saturday, former President Donald Trump visited the home of fellow GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley to attend a college football game between her alma mater, Clemson University, and its rivals, the University of South Carolina, in the annual Palmetto Bowl.
As often happens when the 2024 GOP frontrunner attends large sporting events, the crowd went wild, with cheers and applause heard from all over the stadium.
Prior to Trump’s arrival, excited chants of “USA” rang in the stadium.
Haley is a member of Clemson’s board of trustees. In 2019, Trump celebrated the Clemson Tigers at the White House with fast food feast of burgers and pizza.
In the context of Trump visiting Haley’s home state amid the upcoming primary, spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas told the outlet that she is “the only candidate with momentum.” She added, “South Carolinians know their governor has what it takes to win because they’ve seen her beat the odds before — not just once, but twice.”
