President Trump responded to Elon Musk’s thrashing of the Big Beautiful Act and its spending levels, sparking a very public feud between the two.
Trump told reporters on Thursday that Musk is seemingly “upset because we took the EV mandate” and suggested he was also unhappy that Trump pulled the nomination of Musk’s friend, Jared Isaacman, for NASA administrator.
The Big Beautiful Bill is currently being negotiated in the Senate after passing the House last month by a razor-thin margin.
Musk posted a scathing message on X, saying he “just can’t stand it anymore.” He continued, “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” shaming legislators who voted in favor. “You know you did wrong. You know it.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, however, told reporters on Tuesday that Trump “knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill” and “It doesn’t change the President’s opinion.”
Musk came out again on Thursday, highlighting an old tweet where President Trump said he was “embarrassed” by the Republicans because they were extending the debt ceiling in 2013, a position he has since reversed, now calling for the elimination of the debt ceiling. “Wise words,” said Musk on X.
