Recent polls indicate that President Joe Biden is currently behind former President Donald Trump in Sun Belt states. It appears increasingly probable that Biden will need to secure victory in the crucial Rust Belt battlegrounds in order to be reelected.
Trump is currently ahead in the general election by 1.1% and has consistently maintained leads in nearly all battleground states, as per RealClearPolitics averages. However, Biden’s polling numbers have dropped significantly in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina, with Trump leading by 5.2%, 4.6%, 6.2%, and 5.4% respectively.
Nevertheless, Trump’s margins in the Rust Belt are narrower, with the former President leading Biden in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin by 0.8%, 2%, and 0.6% respectively. If Biden fails to gain ground in the Sun Belt, his path to securing 270 electoral votes may rely on winning the Midwest.
