Brian Wilson, the iconic co-founder, singer, and songwriter of the Beach Boys, dead at the age of 82. His family shared the news in a heartfelt statement posted to Instagram, expressing deep sorrow over his loss.
“We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world,” the family wrote.
While the cause of death was not disclosed, Wilson had reportedly been battling dementia in recent years.
Wilson was widely recognized as one of the most innovative and influential figures in modern music. As the creative force behind the Beach Boys, he not only co-founded the group but also served as its primary composer, producer, and arranger during their most successful years.
From 1962 to 1966, the Beach Boys scored ten top-10 hits and seven additional top-40 songs under Capitol Records. During this time, their popularity in America rivaled that of the Beatles in the UK, whom Wilson viewed as his artistic competitors.
